✅ TIP 1: Cut the Perishables – Go Sustainable and Shelf-Stable
“One of the biggest killers of profit in gift baskets is spoiled inventory. Been there – tossing high-end bakery items felt like tossing cash in the trash. Instead, focus on shelf-stable gourmet goods, artisanal items, and non-edibles that won’t expire quickly – like candles, journals, or custom mugs. It preserves your profit and gives your client a longer gifting experience.”
✅ TIP 2: Specialize for Corporate Clients
“Corporate clients aren’t looking for cute – they’re looking for consistent, professional gifting that reflects their brand. When I made the shift to include branded luxury baskets for companies like Google and Hugo Boss, everything changed. B2B has bigger budgets, repeat orders, and referrals. Build packages specifically for appreciation, onboarding, or holiday gifting.”
✅ TIP 3: Upsell with Add-On Services
“Add value with upsells like hand-delivery, custom cards, or – my favorite – mobile gift wrapping. When I started offering on-site gift wrapping with Nifty, it doubled my income and added a personal touch that no one else was doing. And the best part? “One of the most effective ways I’ve increased revenue is by paying attention to my costs and making sure to include those in my cost of goods to make sure that I am pricing correctly. Otherwise, this affects my bottom line and I end up paying for it. It is wise stewardship. For example, if I am shipping a gift basket to someone, what size box I use really matters. It costs extra to send a larger box than what I might have charged. Also, when I purchase from a vendor, I need to add that shipping cost to my cost of goods so that I pass that on to the client as well.
✅ TIP 6: Use Scarcity & Seasonal Themes to Drive Sales
“One of the most effective ways I’ve increased revenue is with themed, limited-time baskets. Tie your baskets to holidays or trending moments and you’ll create urgency that moves inventory fast.” Also, when you are putting together a proposal, use, “This pricing is good for 7 days,” and put the date so they know there can potentially be an increase.
✅ TIP 7: License or Teach What You Know
“This one’s big. I went from selling baskets to teaching others how to build a gift wrapping business – and created a licensing model for my Nifty system. If you’re skilled in design, wrapping, or basket building, there’s someone out there willing to pay to learn from you. Don’t gatekeep your genius.”
✅ TIP 8: Get Visible – Use Social Media as a Portfolio, Not a Sales Pitch
“Instagram was how Too Faced Cosmetics and even the Kardashians found me. Your feed should be a lookbook, not a billboard. Post behind-the-scenes, ‘unboxing’ style videos, transformation reels, and seasonal ideas. Don’t worry about being perfect. Just be visible.”
